Paxil withdrawal months later? Hello everyone! My name is Randy and I have been off of Paxil since around 4/20/09. I took it for three years from the time I was fifteen until I was eighteen. It is now 7/29/09 so I have been off of it for three months now. The electrical brain zaps that occur from withdrawal have stopped but I am still having periods of dizziness that occur each and every day of my life. I was just wondering if it is indeed possible for me to still be withdrawing from this anti-depressant. Most people say their withdrawal symptoms stop after about three weeks of discontinuation however I can't help but feel mine have lasted much much longer. Does anyone know wether this could be Paxil withdrawal or something else?

My love to you I give my heart replied: "I was so sick to my stomach, every day, for nearly two months, after stopping Lexapro, and I was on it for 8 months. The panic attacks day and night, after I tapered down were almost unbearable and my doc refused to say it was the getting off Lexapro. The anxiety stopped, but the nausea was horrible, 24/7. Thank God all u have is dizziness. You'll come out of it. The only thing that helped me, was Benadyl... Not kidding. BUY some. TODAY."

sonboyfather replied: "i think you are to hard on your self try and take better care of yourself and not think it is the pill ok it can be anything try not to over look at your self an dhave fun with your self just do it ok like the nike said just do in it is not hard to do just have fun"

Paxil withdrawal? I've been on 20 mg. of paxil for about 3 months. I was just wondering how long would I have to be on it to experience the horrible withdrawal side effects when getting off of it? Now, 6 months...etc... Thanks for any input!

It's gonna be okay replied: "One question: Do you eat alot when your on Paxil. I'm on Paxil and it seems it makes me hungry."

insanew/nasty intervals ofsanity replied: "Many psychoactive medications can cause withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation from administration. Evidence has shown that paroxetine has among the highest incidence rates and severity of SSRI (Paxil) discontinuation syndrome of any medication of its class. Common paroxetine withdrawal symptoms include repeated electrical shock sensations of the brain and body, vertigo and hot flashes. Suicidal ideation is a frequently reported experience in those withdrawing from SSRIs (Paxil). For those experiencing extreme and unusual difficulty discontinuing paroxetine, it is recommended that an SSRI (Paxil) with a longer half-life, such as fluoxetine (Prozac), be administered for approximately two weeks, then discontinued, to lessen symptoms. I wish you all the best! Please make sure yo are under the care of your doctor before you try to come off Paxil."

wildhorsejones replied: "Why would anyone take a drug that would do all this to the bain . Have any studies been done to see if these drugs harm the brain?"

Ang replied: "I was on paxil for 6 years. I loved it while taking it. But if you ever plan to quit, please consider starting a new drug instead asap. I had to quit because I became pregnant. The withdrawl was horrible. I researched it online and found people saying the withdrawl symptoms of this drug are equivalent to illegal street drugs. I had a horrible problem. In answer to your question, I don't know how short of a time you can be on it to safely quit. Please consider another drug. there are alot of options out there and none of them are as hard to quit. Please. Good luck to you"

Gard23 replied: ""In one study on Paxil, after only a few weeks on the drug, a significant dependence syndrome was visible in up to 85 percent of healthy volunteers upon withdrawal" (p. 195, Healy, 'Let them Eat Prozac'). So at three months, the likelihood is that you will need to consider the pros/cons of gently tapering off. However, there is no reason to suppose that you will get terrible withdrawal effects... if you read up on individual reports you may soon find some patterns: a) fast withdrawal b) miss-a-day reductions ...seem to lead to a less pleasant experience. A considered, knowledgeable approach to withdrawal would most likely mitigate the experience. Yet, it is equally valid that some individuals can stop, in whatever fashion, and report no withdrawal at all. It is true that some try the Paxil-Prozac switch, I do not know how many are succesful, but I am aware that there is a known and described agitation response that can be severe, and those affected must consider switching back and restabilising. That is one for the individual to research and consider, including the ramifications of stabilising on the Prozac and then reducing from there, since once stable on the Prozac, this too should be slowly tapered off in small increments over an appropriate time period. Equally, there is a liquid version of Paxil, and thus it is easy to accurately and consistently reduce the dose by small amounts using this formulation."

If Paxil does't Have withdrawal symptons why am I having them? I was put on Paxil 4 months ago for anxiety and not being able to sleep. I started gaining weight and told the doctor and he changed me from Paxil to Cymbata . Within a week I was getting weaker and having bouts of exustion and feeling faint to where i couldnt work. He gave me a month leave of absence from work to find out what it was .Each day it got worse to where i couldnt stand up, any movements made me dizzy and nausas , I hurt everywhere, I couldnt think straight, I thought for sure i was going to die. His test results came back normal and I made a list of all my symptons as they happened and he said he didnt need to see them and told me "I dont know what more i can do for you besides your not wanting to work. I again went into tears and told him its not that I dont want to because i love my job, It's I cant!!!!! I went home , started research and knew what was wrong "PAXIL WITHDRAWAL"!!! I am still having problems from it today ,so are we all crazy?? Nurse??

geskuh replied: "I was on Paxil for one month and it actually gave me worse anxiety attacks and made me go psycho!!! That stuff is horrible! Medicine free is the way to go. Try eating a healthy low sugar diet to help with anxiety. And drink lots of water. Sounds crazy, but it worked for me. I have an anxiety disorder and was having attacks every single day. Anxiety can do some wierd things to your body. It used to make my whole body tingle and go numb, and then I'd get these infections in my lymph nodes. It's not healthy... you need to get clear of it. It will eventually overstress your body and can lead to major health problems if you don't deal with it. If you want to talk to me more... send me a message on my 360 page."

getsevera replied: "You are not crazy. Tell your Doctor to read the Paxil label - this is from the label: During Paxil marketing, there have been spontaneous reports of similar adverse events, which may have no causal relationship to the drug, upon the discontinuation of Paxil (particularly when abrupt), including the following: dizziness, sensory disturbances (e.g., paresthesias such as electric shock sensations), agitation, anxiety, nausea, and sweating. These events are generally self-limiting. Similar events have been reported for other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors."

Triskelion replied: "Paxil is horrible. I was taking it for anti-anxiety .When i started taking it I felt like ripping out the walls or hitting something. I spent 1 1/2 weeks trying to keep my mind from losing it. Some people experience withdrawals and this takes about 2 weeks. I only went to mild withdrawals when they switched me to Welbutrin XL after Paxil was causing "sexual" related problems. However Welbutrin was good at first and then later on one weekend in May 2004 I no longer felt anxiety but started feeling extreme depression that was leading to extreme suicidal feelings and thoughts. I decided to stop it all together and stop taking anymore. Since I had already been on about 5 other anti-anxiety/anti-depressants before these with all kinds of weird effects I decided I needed to stop. My problem was always situational(breakup, bankruptcy, losing house, going to court) all those feelings subsided and ive learned to deal with it. I occasionally get some anxiety here and there(more often if i drink too much coffee lol) but not enough to need meds for this. A friend of mine is taking something i dont remember the name she tells me she only takes it when she needs it. I dont know anything about cymbata. If its not doing the right job i suggest you call your doctor and tell them its not working properly(thats what i did ) and they can always recommend something else. Also ask if they have samples so you dont have to spend all that money changing from one to another if possible. I wish you luck wished i could tell you more."

basketcase replied: "Paxil DOES have withdrawal symptoms. You should taper off slowly. I can't believe a doctor just took you completely off all at once! I would switch doctors."

mcfeely975 replied: "Paxil Withdrawl is very real I just went through it last month. I contacted my Dr. that was perscribing the paxil and he told me to taper off the dosage (I tried to go off cold turkey) I explained to him that I had been feeling bad for about 4 days and had been off the paxil for 6 days, he then told me not to go back on the Paxil to ween off I was in and almost past the worst off it. It lasted all in all for about 9 days (3 of which I couldn't even move everything hurt even my hair."

superrix83 replied: "I'm on Paxil now, and have been on/off before. I went on something else for a while which increased my crazy-so I went back on the Paxil. Anyways, I had some of the same symptoms as you, which originally made me to believe I was pregnant, but after about a month it was all gone. I HIGHLY suggest you go see another doctor because yours obviously doesn't pay attention to what he is prescribing, plus if you immediately changed to cymbata after Paxil you could be combining side effects/hormones/drugs, making things worse. If you're hesitational about the doctor, I'd go to your local Osco/CVS/Walgreen's, and talk to one of the pharmacists there. I've found they're actually really helpful. They might be able to give you some more insight into the side effects and withdrawal symptoms since they see what's coming in and out of the pharmacy. I believe you can also ask questions to an online pharmacist at. Good luck!"

Clickclack replied: "NO, you are NOT crazy! I am in the throes of withdrawal. If you want some of the science between withdrawal, and some support - if you need to hear others talking about the exact same thing to know you're not alone - if you want answers (and yes, from nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, etc., as well as many personal testamonies), visit the site below. You don't have to join to read, but I guarantee you will be set at ease. Oh, and on a side note? The medication guide to paxil CLEARLY states that paxil is NOT to be immediately stopped under any circumstance! It is to be a gradual wean. Your doctor is a damn fool, and one that does no research at all. Dump him/her immediately. God only knows what he could put you on next! Paxil, indeed all SSRIs, are bad for your body. They cause insomnia, affect the liver, and can cause mania and suicial idealation."

How long before paxil withdrawal symptoms dissapate? I have now been aropax free for 5 weeks. I was told by the medical profession that it only took 7-10 days to withdraw from methadone..... when in reality it was months/years not days. Hence interested in what real people have to say.

G M replied: "In my experience.... about three months before it is out of your system. "

cumdriplips replied: "my god, this goes on?"

Maggie B replied: "I was on paxil for 1 year (worst year of my life I might add) and still 6 years later every once in a while I get that buzzing, static shock feeling running through my body, completely unpleasant. For the first year it was almost constant through the day. So what can I say, I always tell everyone who asks, and I suggest they really look into some other medication, because I least for me its been HELL. I truly hope its not so bad for you."

Hey jude replied: "Personally speaking, I have tried to wean myself without good effect. The Pharmacist said it's a very long slow wean. I'm not sure why this happens with Paxil. I would never say do not take it b/c it really helped me in my darkest hour. I just wish there was a better way to get off it. I felt like I was having a zipping feeling in my body & rushes when I attempted to cut back. My pharmacist said you take half does 1 day aweek for 2-3 weeks then take half dose 2xweek for 2-3 weeks, etc. At that rate it could take a number of weeks. I felt awful just missing 1 dose."

jjcad5 replied: "I have been on Paxil for about 7 years. Up the dose, lower the dose. I never knew what was going on. Finally, we found a mg that agreed with me. 40 mg. But then I started to feel panicy throught out the day, so I decided to cut my pills in half. After 7 years and being highly addicted, if I miss my "20mg" dose, every time I move my eyes, I feel like my head is going to explode. I hope that you get over the withdrawls soon. Best of luck."

How Long Does Paxil Withdrawal Effects Last? I've been on paxil for the last year and a half and it has helped me allot with my Social anxiety. but last month i was thinking that i can do it by myself i am not gonna depend on this for life i can do it, so i quitpaxil and also cause my insurance co, switched providers and my new providor did not want to prescribe it because he wasnt a psychiatrist. so i got tired of looking for a new one so i just decided that was enough. Im experiencing the withdrawal effects Cold Turkey, I feel ZAPS in my brain and throught my body speially when i stretch my back and i feel allot of agression toward people for no reason and i feel like a stuffy head feeling, like if i was gonna get hte flu and i feel like i aint worth cr9p that no one wants me. it sbeen already 2 and a half Weeks since i was off paxil, im scared of these electric zaps and my Agression,Howdidyou COpe with it is there anything i can take to calm my agression and make me feel confortable, and how longdoes the witdrawal effects last after you paxil was out of your system did you feel any of these symptoms and did you feel normal before you were Pre-Paxil

HeeBGBz replied: "You shouldn't go cold turkey with that stuff. I thought I was gonna stroke if I went off it longer than a couple of days. Very dizzy and uncomfortable angst. I had to wean myself off of it by reducing the dosage a little at a time. The zaps feel like brain pops? Like a cattle prod coming from inside your head? It took me about 3 weeks to a month before I stopped feeling the uncomfortable dizziness."

Monica A replied: "The duration of the withdrawal process seems to vary from individual to individual. In my own experience, the worst was over after the first two weeks. Still, three weeks into it, I was far from feeling normal though. It took around six weeks for all the symptoms to subside. Its hard, but worth it. Hang in there and be kind to yourself. I find exercise helped a lot with some of the withdrawl and helped keep me somewhat sane. Good luck. Try this site for more help:"

Natalie N replied: "I was on paxil a few years ago and they decided I should go off of it. I had to do a slow withdrawal, cutting the pills in half. It was rough, but it didn't last that long, the whole process took about two months and then after that I was put on other medication. I was a little shaky at times and somewhat upset but after that I was ok. You can do it!!"

nis350ztt replied: "I would NOT cold turkey quit Paxil. I've tried doing it a few times before when I took Paxil. With me, Paxil gave me horrible dizziness and light-headedness. If I missed more than one scheduled dose I would start slipping down into being depressed again. I would ween yourself off of it. Just try taking less and less medication. Do it by weeks though. Like two weeks and 3/4, 2 or 3 weeks later try half, 2 or 3 weeks later try 1/4, and then 2 or 3 weeks later try every other day (if you don't already do that), then 2 or 3 weeks later try not taking it. It takes weeks for changes to be noticed, so you really need to give it time and take the process slow."

gmonte33 replied: "I've been on Paxil in the past and never had problems going off of it but some people do. Since you're having problems you shouldn't stop it cold turkey. Go back on it and then gradually reduce the dosage over a period of several weeks. This should lessen the withdrawal symptoms."

princessgrace977 replied: "I am sooo sorry. Paxil sucks. I tried to get off cold turkey and I had the SAME exact syptoms lasting for weeks. I couldnt take it anymore so I got back on it. I hate having to depend on Paxil to keep me feeling like myself. I have heard of withdraw symptoms lasting for months and even a year, which makes me not EVER wanting to quit cold turkey. I would suggest taking it and slowly getting off of it or else it could really ruin your life(not to sound so depressing, but it turns you into a completly differnt person when off it). Good luck! I know you can do it!"

Nate replied: "I have been on Paxil for 3 years and when I stoped cold turkey I to got the uncofortable zaps in my body and head. However because I was only taking 10mg, the lowest possible dose, the withdrawal effects wern't to bad. I started to ween off it by cutting my pills in half to 5mg and I still had withdrawal. But my doctor told me that these feelings are totallly psycholgical and there is no real harm being done to your body. I believe it. I've gone 4 days without it and I feel fine!"

Paxil withdrawal symptoms. Should I take my medicine now or wait? I've been on Paxil for about, over 6 months. It has helped me ALOT but recently I thought I was pregnant so I stopped taking it. I've felt "shocks" all over my body,in tears for no good reason and lightheaded and dizzy. I still have half a bottle left. I don't know if I should take one to make it stop or wait it out.

Mathew replied: "Hey, DO NOT, stop cold turkey with Paxil, or any other anti-depressant. You have keep lowering your dosages. Talk to your doctor abou it."

PsychoChick966 replied: "Please consult your doctor. Just as Paxil shouldn't be abruptly discontinued, it also should be titrated up when starting out. In the future, rather than making a decision on taking your pre ion(s) on your own, consult the prescribing physician."

paxil withdrawal...zaps/electric shock sensations? I was on 20mg paxil for about a month. Been off it for a week now. I am experiences mild electric shock like sensations in my head. i have read that this is a common symptom of paxil withdrawal. it is quite bad today im getting zaps every few minutes. how long will it take for these to stop happening? considering i was only on paxil for a month i am finding this quite distressing. would like to hear about similar experiences when coming off paxil

Dee Hat replied: "When getting off any meds like this you should do it slow. Take one every other day for a week or so and then 3x a week and then off. Take one today and then again sunday and then stay off of them and see what happens. I'm experiencing this right now cause I forgot my meds for a few days!!!"

Paxil withdrawal or Wellbutrin? I was prescribed 10mg of Paxil about 3 months back.. My second month into it; I complained to my doctor about how I was always feeling fatigued. He then prescribed me 20mg to take every evening before bed. My third month on 20mg of Paxil caused me to gain almost 20 lbs. I let my doctor know about my weight gain.. And just recently told me to start taking half a tablet of Paxil for one week and start 100mg of Wellbutrin; twice a day. I started taking Wellbutrin three days ago and I've been suffering from nausea and vomitting ever since. Is this from the Paxil withdrawal or from the Wellbutrin? Thank you in advance..

Steven M replied: "Which med it is does not really matter. Vomiting is a dangerous medical event. You should contact your physician immediately. If the vomiting is frequent, or accompanied with a temperature, you should go to Urgent Care or an ER immediately. Do not stop taking the meds until you are told to by a doctor. Treat the effects of vomiting by drinking water - 1 to 2 pints every time you vomit. Note: drink water, not juice, soda, milk, etc. You can add 1/2 tsp of sugar and a pinch of salt to every pint of water. This helps to keep your electrolytes balanced like GatorAid does."

dianadali13 replied: "http://www.join-the-fun.com/paxil-withdrawal.html I've been horrifically sick too :( Resting and drinking orange juice might help. _____________________________________________... The best way to minimize withdrawal side effects is to wean off the medication. By reducing the dosage in small increments, your serotonergic system can gradually take over it's own natural serotonin producing activity and slowly adapt to living without the drug. This process may take up to a year or longer. Some doctors are halving the dose every week or two. We do not recommend to taper off that fast. Nor do we recommend to skip daily doses. Taper gradually with an absolute maximum of 5% per week. When it gets down to the smallest dose, (10mg capsule), you can try "The Orange Juice Bit", "Cutting Tablets" -from: _____________________________________________... Tried orange Gatorade??? Hope you feel better and go to the doctor <3 *hugs &&& grabs butt* D.D<---yes. It's me :}D"

Paxil withdrawal....How long does it Last!!?? iv'e been on a 40 mg. dose of paxil for the past 6 months. on my last bottle before the precription ran out it felt like it wasn't working as well as it was at first, so when i ran out I thought it was time to quit, & the widrawal symptoms wouldnt be that bad but it's been a week since i've been off it and i feel worse than I did before I started taking it, i can't get to sleep at all despite how tired i am and my mind races all night, i usually never get headaches but now my head pounds, and i feel like i have the flu. i cant think straight, feel lightheaded all the time, zapping and whoosing sensations, bad panic attacks, fear like ive never felt before, almost thought i was dying the other night. i sometimes feel like im out of my body. i did manage to get an hour of sleep the past 2 nights and had the craziest, disturbing dreams ever. i shouldnt have gone cold turkey. how long does it last before u feel sane again? this is hell and i will be going back on it if they dont subside. I wan't to thank everyone who responded, your info. was very helpful and opened my eyes about the truth of the drug. another week has gone by and i am feeling significantly better, but still a few symptoms every now and then, still feel like i have a mild hangover and the flu-like symptoms are subsiding. but nothing like last week which was nothing less than the pit of hell (not an understatement). even though i felt good when i was on paxil, it was like putting on a mask and i didnt even realize it. now that im off it I can feel my old self coming back...i am aware that the depression may/will return and if it does i wont go back on any precription drug, counceling and st. johns wort may be the key, but not drugs. I know many ppl need precription drugs to keep alive, and I know that many of them are safe and have a good rep. but there are many of them out there, like paxil, that u have to be careful of or better yet, steer clear of. thank you all again for your help, i appreciated it.

Health_Nut replied: "NewsTarget.com printable article Originally published September 12 2005 Consumers Join Forces to Protest Against Antidepressant Paxil and Kickoff Boycott of Drug Company GlaxoSmithKline (press release) by Mike Adams Consumer drug advocates from across the United States, Canada and elsewhere are converging on drug giant GlaxoSmithKlines US corporate headquarters located in Philadelphia, PA this September 26th through 28th in what could turn out to be a massive demonstration against the companys top selling drug called Paxil. The event is called the "Paxil Protest." "Paxil is a dangerous and defective drug. That is absolutely the case," said Rob Robinson, the events organizer. "The swath of devastation, misery and sometimes death which Paxil has unleashed the world over is simply staggering. Yet GlaxoSmithKline has done everything in its power to keep the sinister truth about Paxil from going public. Whats at stake for the company is a multibillion dollar revenue stream that sales of Paxil have generated for almost ten years." "GlaxoSmithKline has claimed since 1992," Robinson said, "that Paxil is safe and effective after it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration end of story. But its the beginning of the story which GSK conveniently forgets, or rather doesnt want the world to know about, and that is the fact that Paxils FDA approval was based on the companys submission of fraudulent Phase III clinical trials. As such, GSKs claim that Paxil is safe and effective is specious at best." "The truth is Paxil represents the greatest fraud ever perpetuated within the pharmaceuticals industry," Robinson said. "But thanks to the unsparing efforts of attorneys representing Paxil victims evidence of this fraud has been uncovered in GlaxoSmithKlines confidential files. One trial and it all comes out. And that is going to be one huge news story on the order of Mercks Vioxx." A much anticipated Paxil trial set to take place May 2nd of this year was delayed for at least another six months. Robinson says he is not surprised: "GSK has spent hundreds of millions of dollars fighting to keep the truth about Paxil from coming out, but at the end of day Im confident the companys efforts will fail." Approximately 5,000 U.S. citizens have filed suit against GlaxoSmithKline asserting they became addicted to Paxil and then suffered withdrawals when quitting the drug as a consequence of the company failing to warn them of the drugs dangers. Several thousand more persons have sued GlaxoSmithKline in the UK on the same basis. "Paxils reach extends into medicine cabinets the world over, and cuts across all social classes," Robinson said. "Paxil is an equal opportunity destroyer." Some lawsuits filed against GlaxoSmithKline are on behalf of patients who started Paxil only to discover they could not stop taking the drug, even with expert medical help. (One patient in Britain was told by her doctors that heroin would have been easier to wean [herself] off and recover from.) "Paxil withdrawal symptoms can be so severe and protracted it requires an almost superhuman strength to endure them," Robinson said. "Not surprisingly, some people cannot, and as a consequence commit suicide. Others victims have resumed use of Paxil to escape withdrawal symptoms, but will have to take the drug for the rest of their lives whether they want to or not. In other words, theyve become lifetime Paxil addicts." Robinson stated that a review of the medical literature shows that, on average, over one-third of people taking Paxil for any extended period of time experience withdrawal symptoms, and of those, 21% experience severe withdrawal symptoms. In the clinical trials of Paxil, a significant percentage of patients (up to 50% according to some studies) experienced withdrawal. "There is a huge disconnect between what GSK tells the public about Paxil, and what the truth about Paxil is. That disconnect extends to GlaxoSmithKlines labeling of the drug throughout the world. GSK is a very big company with an even bigger problem of telling the truth," Robinson said. In an October 19, 2000 deposition taken of Dr. David Wheadon, Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Product Professional Services for GlaxoSmithKline, Dr. Wheadon stated "there have been a number of systematic studies in humans looking at the potential for Paxil for abuse, tolerance and physical dependence. So actually, there is data to date to negate the statement that it has not been systematically studied, because, in fact, it has been." However, Paxils June, 2005 drug labeling states "Paxil has not been systematically studied in animals or humans for its potential for abuse, tolerance or physical dependence." At the time of Dr. Wheadons testimony Paxils U.S. drug label claimed: Paxil is non-habit forming, may cause mild, usually temporary, side effects in some individuals" and further that Paxil has been studied both in short-term and long-term use and is not associated with dependence or addiction. "Those claims are now known to be utterly false," said Robinson. "No discerning member of the public, or the press, will believe that Dr. Wheadon was simply mistaken or ill-informed at the time of his year 2000 deposition," Robinson said. He (Wheadon) knows as much about Paxil as anybody at Glaxo; all one has to do is peruse his sworn testimony to see thats clearly the case." (Access Dr. Wheadons complete testimony at the Paxil Protest web site.) Dr. Wheadons association with Paxil spans two decades; he was part of the original GSK team which presented Paxils clinical trials during the FDAs October 5th, 1992 hearing wherein the company first sought and later gained the agencys approval for the drug. A Paxil Protest web site, launched on August 8th, 2005, has already received over a quarter of a million hits. "The response from the public has been one of exuberance. Which is hardly surprising given the fact that this represents the first time in history a multinational drug company has successfully been targeted using the Internet as a public relations weapon," Robinson said. "The Internet is providing the public the matchless ability to organize and direct participants on the ground and to further respond in real time to a highly fluid and dynamic public relations environment. Its almost like having the equivalent of an AWACS radar plane circling over a public relations battlefield." The Paxil Protest web site, well organized and easy to navigate, lays out a compelling indictment not only of Paxil, but also of GlaxoSmithKline. "Virtually all of what youll see at the Paxil Protest web site was assembled from news stories, medical journals, depositions and the like. It was simply a matter of pulling all the facts together into one big package for the public," Robinson said. "I challenge GlaxoSmithKline to dispute the accuracy and veracity of anything published to the web site." The Paxil Protest web site also includes important information for Paxil users who might wish to quit the drug. "What I did not want to have happen is to have Paxil users come to the site, panic, and then abruptly quit the drug. The consequences could be disastrous. Thats why an entire web page addresses the issue of how to get off Paxil safely, or as safely as possible." "I am confident the public as well as the media will discover information that is newsworthy and highly informative on virtually every page of the Paxil Protest web site" Robinson said. "Plenty of story angles to be had," he added. Robinson, a Paxil survivor himself, said it took several years of intermittent but intensive research to assemble the information presented at the Paxil Protest web site. "My goal was to make it as easy as possible for the public to get to the truth about Paxil the sinister truth which GlaxosmithKline hides from the world." He describes the Paxil Protest web site as the definitive Paxil Information Clearinghouse. As many as 1,000 or more protesters might attend the Paxil Protest. "We simply have no way of forecasting how many people might show up; after all, the call to action is going out the world over," Robinson said. Victims and survivors of other SSRI drugs such as Prozac, Effexor and Zoloft are also expected to attend in a show of community support. Joy replied: "Ck w/ your doctor. I was on paxil, and weaned off.... with doctor's assistance... I do not fully recall, but I think I went into hospital for about 10 days, to be sure I was stable ... then returned to work. Please ck in with a professional. I recall way back when, I read up and it is not an easy adjustment."

Karen replied: "I had the same reaction about a year ago when I ran out and figured I could make it to next payday. I had the odd dreams, paranoia, headache, etc. I didn't know what was wrong with me, but then I checked out a website about Paxil withdrawl and TaDa! When I was perscribed Paxil, though, my doctor warned me not to go off cold turkey. Just like it took a month or two for my body to get used to the pills, it also took a while for it to get used to being off. I went to half doses for a few months (which was so much cheaper because I just cut my pills in half with a pill cutter from Target) and then just a half every other day."

Barbara replied: "Please get professional help now! Considering the lawsuits against Paxil for the horrible results, including violence against others, its use and stopping-use causes, it's hard to see why it is prescribed so freely. I'm glad for those it helps, but from personal experience, I know using it has resulted in horrible tragedy. Good luck. You are going to get better."

jsmcb replied: "as with most antidepressant drugs their usage should be stopped on a gradual basis. Heck if I miss my morning coffee I get terrible withdrawal headaches. These drugs aren't aspirin or herbs but complicated advanced drugs the have at least in my case done much more good then harm. Lets see a diabetic quit insulin cold turkey and see how the body responds. One month is not enough time to know if the drug is helping, its not going to automatically change your moods. Personally i just don't crushed by some stupid things someone says or a bad day like I used to. Cant sleep? Try some ambien, take just a little 5mg, done use it if you don't need to get up in the AM. I swear some people dont remember what led them to seek help in the first place. Oh, oh, I am starting to rant. I have changes doses, tried others and found the best for me and it works. I am not great everyday, I still get down for periods but they are far shorter then I used to get. 25mg Paxil CR and 150mg Wellbutrin XL. I have found this combo keeps me even and still able to enjoy nookie."

Paxil Withdrawal Length? Dear All, I have been on 40 mg Paxil for 3.5 months when I started to tapering it off. It took me 3 months to go down to 2.5 mg where I am currently right now. Until now no serious problems, but lately I started to develop "fear of unknown" and very very upset stomach. Need your advice please. Was my taper too fast? Should I continue with my taper (i want to cut my pill to 1.25 mg) now or after symtoms will disappear. Are those - 'fear of unknown' and upset stomach part of w/d symptoms. How long symptoms will last after I will discontinue completely for being on paxil 3.5 months and tapering for almost same period of time. Kindly advise, Robert

PsyGuy replied: "It is best to contact your doctor or therapist. Paxil has a long half life which is the time it takes the drug to metabolize to half strength. That is why it takes an extended period of time to decrease daily doses. There is a possibility that your are experiencing rebound symptoms due to the medication that can be worse before you started Paxil. If you are tapering, I do hope you are doing this with a physicians guidance. It's probably the best solution to contact the prescribing doctor. Good Luck!"
